Visit the shelter and spend time walking the dogs or sitting with the cats you are interested in. If you have other pets please feel free to bring them to see if they are compatible with the pet of your choice.
Fill out an application once you have decided on the dog or cat you wish to bring home. There is a 24 hour waiting period while shelter employees will check your references. This also gives you time to prepare for your new pet. (If a dog comes to the shelter as a stray it must remain at the shelter for a period of seven days).
Finally! You may come in and fill out the adoption paperwork and take your new pet home!
