Our dogs love getting out of the shelter and spending quality time with people and you can help make that happen!

Doggy Day Trip

Take a shelter dog on a fun adventure for a few hours! Whether it's a walk around town, a hike on the trails, a trip to the park, or simply a relaxing car ride, these outings provide valuable enrichment and a much needed break from shelter life. Dogs who participate in Doggy Day Trips are often less stressed and better prepared to meet potential adopters. They also gain important real world experiences and life skills they can't learn while waiting in the shelter.

Slumber Pup

Give a shelter dog a cozy overnight stay through our Slumber Pup program. A night away from the shelter allows dogs to decompress, enjoy the comforts of a home environment, and receive extra love and attention. These sleepovers help us learn more about a dog's personality and behavior in a home setting, while giving them a restful break from the shelter.

Getting Started

To participate in either program, complete an application and submit it in person or email it to volunteering@hswa.org. Once approved, you'll be ready to take a deserving shelter dog on an adventure or welcome one into your home for a memorable overnight stay! Your time can make a world of difference in a shelter dog's life.
